We’ll take a look at some of the app and system settings, so you’ll get the Xbox app notifications working again.
1. Enable Xbox App Notifications
Before checking your system settings, let’s make sure you haven’t accidentally turned off notifications on the Xbox app.
Launch the Xbox app. Click on the profile icon and select Settings. Open Notifications and check the options you need.
Additionally, there is one odd trick that you could try to fix the Xbox app notification issue. Use the app in Windowed mode instead of Full screen. Press Esc or F11 to exit Full Screen mode.
2. Turn Off Focus Assist
Focus Assist is great for times when you want to work in a distraction-free environment as it helps you to better manage notifications. If you’ve turned it on or didn’t include the Xbox app on the priority list, Windows 10 will prevent your Xbox app notifications from appearing.
You can check Focus Assist status by opening Action Center at the bottom right, but if the tile is missing, you can turn it off from Settings:
Launch Settings. Head to System > Focus Assist. Select Off to disable Focus Assist. If you want to add the Xbox app to the Priority list, click Customize your priority list and add the Xbox app.
3. Update the Xbox App
If you’re running an older version of the Xbox app, you could experience different problems such as crashes, freezes, or the inability to display notifications. Updating the app to the latest version will solve these problems and improve performance.
4. Allow the Xbox App to Run in the Background
There is also the case when the Xbox app stops displaying notifications once you close it. In this case, take a look at the list of apps allowed to run in the background. Here is how you can do it:
Press Win + I to launch Settings. Open Privacy and from the left-hand menu, select Background apps. Turn on the toggle below Background apps. Check the Choose which app can run in the background list and turn on the toggle for Xbox.
5. Run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter
If you’ve run into issues when using any app from the Windows Store, running the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter could fix the problem. As such, fixing the Microsoft Store can then fix the Xbox app that depends on it.
Right-click the Start button and open Settings. Head to Update & Security > Troubleshoot and click Additional troubleshooters. From Find and fix other problems, select Windows Store Apps > Run the troubleshooter.
6. Repair and Reset the Xbox App
If running the Windows Store troubleshooter didn’t fix the Xbox app notification issue, try to repair it.
Open Settings. Head to Apps > Apps & features. From the app list, click Xbox > Advanced options. Scroll down and click the Repair button. Windows will repair the app without deleting any data.
If repairing the app didn’t work, you can try and reset it. Keep in mind that when resetting Xbox, Windows will delete the app data.
7. Disable the Xbox Game Bar
The Xbox Game Bar might interfere with the Xbox app functionality, stopping it from showing any notifications. If you don’t use the Game Bar to record yourself playing, here is how to disable it:
Launch Settings. Go to Gaming > Xbox Game Bar. Turn off the toggle below Control how Xbox Game Bar opens and recognizes your game.
Don’t Miss Out on Xbox Notifications Again
As we’ve discussed, there are more things to consider when fixing the Xbox app notification problem. Fortunately, Windows comes with plenty of tools that will help you solve the problem. And with a bit of patience, you’ll get the notifications working again.
