There has been no official explanation from Roku or the TV manufacturers themselves about why this might happen. Unofficially, however, it does appear to be tied to some kind of driver update.
How Do I Stop my Roku TV From Turning Off?
Troubleshooting tips from the Roku community have been made, however, some may require you to completely reset the TV. This can be frustrating, as you’ll need to log back into all of your accounts and set everything back up the way you had it before. As such, you’ll want to try the easiest methods first, as this could save you from having to reconfigure everything after fixing the issue.
Check for a System Update. If you can keep your TV on long enough, then you can do this by going into Settings > System > System Update and choosing Check for Update. Turn off HDMI-CEC in the menu. Navigate to Settings > System > Control Other Devices (CEC) and ensure you have unchecked all of the boxes. Restart your TV. Unplug your TV and let it remain unplugged for several minutes. After a short while, try plugging it in again. This can cause the entire system to hard reboot, which may fix any issues the TV might be running into. Try unplugging all the external connected devices from your TV—remove all HDMI connections, audio connections to sound bars, etc. These can sometimes cause issues with the TV and removing them may resolve any problems. If this works, you can try plugging each device in one at a time to determine which one was causing the issue. Check any previously or currently connected devices to see if they have the option to turn the TV on or off in their settings. Gaming consoles like the Xbox allow you to turn off the TV when you are done using the console so consider disabling that feature to see if it solves your problem. If your TV keeps turning on by itself, and you use the Roku mobile app, ensure the app is completely closed before turning your TV off. Sometimes the TV registers the app as you still using the TV and may turn it back on. Reset the TV completely. This can be done one of two ways. You can complete it through the settings, by going to Settings > System > Advanced System Settings and then choosing Factory Reset. This will completely remove everything from the TV’s system, resetting it to how it was when you removed it from the box. The second method you can use here is to press down and hold the Reset button on the side or back of the TV. You need to hold it down for at least 15 seconds to complete the process. The TV will reboot once it has completed the process. If completely resetting your TV doesn’t work, then you can try the next step, which is to place the TV in store mode instead of customer mode. This still allows you to download and use apps you normally would, but it may resolve the problems with your TV turning off randomly when in use. If it doesn’t, you can always reset and set it back up as a consumer TV.
If resetting your TV doesn’t resolve the issue, check with the manufacturer of the TV to see what the warranty covers, and if possible, get it replaced through the warranty. If the warranty has expired, or if the manufacturer doesn’t want to replace it, you may need to look into other replacement options.
