Causes of Your iPhone Battery Draining Fast

Since Apple rolled out iOS 13, many iPhone owners have reported issues with battery drainage. Many users experienced the battery going from full charge to 20% within a couple of hours. There have also been reports of iPhones overheating easily and spontaneously rebooting, even when the phone is not in use.

How to Fix iPhone Battery Drain

If your iPhone battery drains rapidly, there are a few things you can try to fix the problem. Most are fast, easy ways to fix the problem and increase battery life.

Close faulty apps. A faulty app may drain power from an iPhone. Generally, quitting an app on an iPhone doesn’t improve battery life on an iPhone. However, if something is wrong with the app, it might cause a problem. You can find out if an app uses too much battery by going to Settings > Battery, then looking at the open apps that are using the battery. Look for anything that uses a high amount of power and close the app, if necessary. Connect to Wi-Fi or turn off Wi-Fi. You could be beyond the range of a Wi-Fi or cellular network, so the phone is in constant search mode. If your iPhone can’t connect to Wi-Fi, or it has no service from your mobile carrier, it continues to search for a network to connect to, thereby draining the battery. Turn off Wi-Fi and prevent it from connecting automatically, or put the phone in Airplane Mode to reduce the drain. Adjust the brightness. The brightness at which an iPhone displays can have an impact on the battery life because it takes more power to generate more light. Turn off auto-brightness, then set the screen brightness to a dimmer setting, or enable Dark Mode. It changes the color theme on the device to darker colors that require less battery power. Place the iPhone face down when receiving notifications. Every time you receive a notification on your iPhone, the phone’s screen lights up. The more notifications you receive, the faster the battery drains. However, if you leave the iPhone face down, this can help avoid battery drainage. The iPhone will still receive notifications, but the screen won’t light up. If you don’t check every notification you receive, you can stop the iPhone battery from draining too quickly. Turn off push mail on the iPhone. When the iPhone email settings have Push turned on, the device constantly checks the email servers to see if there are any new communications, using power in the process. Push Mail maintains a constant connection that looks for new emails and then pushes them to your iPhone as quickly as possible. By changing the Push Mail settings to Every 15 Minutes, you can stay in the loop without the iPhone battery draining too quickly. Disable Raise to Wake. One of the functions that iPhones automatically use is the Raise to Wake feature, which turns on the iPhone screen every time it is picked up or moved around. This may save you the hassle of having to press the power button every time you want to view the screen, but it causes battery drainage every time the phone is moved. Go to Settings > Display and Brightness, then toggle the Raise to Wake switch to off (gray). Turning off Raise to Wake improves the iPhone’s overall battery life. Configure widgets and notifications. The Today View gives you today’s date and current time, but the main function is to house widgets that let you access your favorite apps. However, each of those widgets requires battery power to maintain a connection and keep data relevant. Reducing the number of widgets helps stop the iPhone battery from draining too quickly.
